In recent years the notion of ontologies has become increasingly important in the
design and development of knowledge based and expert systems.
Geo-informatics involves development and integration of computer tools and software for solving problems that deal with spatial (geographical) data.
It is emerging as one of the best technologies ,which has variety of application in fields such as agriculture, environment, health, military, urban and rural development, natural and man made disasters, oil and natural gas, banking and insurance, business geographic, mobile mapping, etc.
I would like to get an overview of ontologies and how they have been used in geoinformatics.
Take a look at www.onegeology.org, onegeology europe and www.cgi-iugs.org. Some papers about this subject were written by mr. Xiaogang Ma. You will find more information in this site. If you are intereset about working in semantic and ontologies you will be welcomed at the CGI working groups.
