Looking around for a cell counting chamber/hemocytometer to buy, I have noted that several different types exist, such as "Neubauer chamber" and "Bürker chamber". What are the characteristics of each type of counting chamber? Are the differences important?
The chambers differ in the depth. 0.02 mm is used for counting e.g. bacteria, 0.1 for e.g. yeasts.
Neubauer is the most commonly used and very conventional - a 'classic'. Simple to use and very accurate as long as you have a good, single cell suspension. I would suggest using the Neubauer for manual counting of cells. Use Trypan Blue dye to gain some insight to the cell viability also.
They differ by depth and grid spacing. For mammalian cell culture, the Neubauer is a good choice.
