One of the important and recent topics related to sediment transport is on river sand in terms of its generation/transportation/accumulation/mining and its impact on the river banks; river based water supply schemes like infiltration galleries; bridges; check-dams/reservoirs; salinity intrusion near the river mouth; etc.
Another topic to consider is effect of curved river/ river curvature on the scour process. Example of latest work on this are from Michele Palermo and Stefano Pagliara.
Some other topics can be:
1. Extent of sedimentation in flood plains.
2. Reservoir sedimentation & sediment management.
3. Discharge of sediment load to ocean.
