there are several advancements in the analysis and monitoring of freshwater bodies in all over world; but i need to know the current advancements in the same. like modelling, analysis, prediction, statistical applications etc., can anyone help in this regard

It is possible to utilize geospatial imagery and false color GIS imagery to show dissolved organic carbon in bodies of water. DOC is a marker for human based pollution. This one of the only "global" monitoring resource opportunities that can be utilized by a remote viewer without having to deploy technology. It does however require specialized expertise and access to be utilized.

sediment health in aquatic bodies is very crucial and is worthy of consideration. I did some work on aquatic water body health as impacted with the tanning industry, kindly peruse the following paper (I hope and pray it is helpful);

Some other current tools for assessing pollution status of aquatic ecosystems includes the use of cell lines (in situ biomonitoring), use of biometric ratios and sediment toxicity screening guidelines by US NOAA.
Trends are also moving towards the use of fish early life stages/embryos for monitoring sediment toxicity.

Recently, in numerous articles in the press, algae blooms in particular are identified as part of the problem. This is an incorrect assumption. The algae is an important member of the aquatic biota and the food chain, that in a normal ecosystem dynamic is a natural purification system. In nearly every case the algae blooms are an indicator of anthropogenic influences such as excess nutrient pollution which would be re-balanced in the normal ecosystem dynamic.
current trends in pollution research now include molecular aspects to understand how pollution affects gene expression and ultimately the survival of an organism in its habitat.
..for instance checking the expression of proteins called HIFs (hypoxia inducible factors) in wild aquatic organisms can give a ready pointer to whether they are living in hypoxic conditions or not.
Critical question you have ask........I think if you monitoring or predicting pollution in aquatic water bodies......you can used bio indicator organisms or some physicochemical parameters......
