Attempt have been made through peace deals with international bodies in bit to resolve this violent conflict, yet it seems intractable? Are these bodies really making positive contributions to the situation?
In my years of study and research on conflict i am yet to come across a peace treaty with an extremist Islamist terrorist group in Africa or anywhere in the world without showing these combatants superior fire power (stick) which may then be followed by the negotiations (carrot). On the contributions of international bodies, this is relegated to the I.D.P camps providing succor and all that but, during an interaction with a friend who works in the AU i raised this question. He vehemently resisted the involvement of international bodies and said that was the position of the Nigerian state due to its sovereignty. From further investigations I discovered that Nigeria actually blocked the involvement of countries like the USA.
Apparently, the international contribution is insufficient since the conflict is continuing. In my humble opinion, a very important thing for the Nigerian government would be to further strengthen cooperation with the neighbors: Cameroon, Niger, and Chad. Besides, it would be worth to use intelligence information from other countries, like the USA.
