The chaos in issuing decisions that are not studied by decision makers

I could write you a book, but here are a few bullet points:

1. balancing teaching and "publish or perish."

2. managing guilt from teaching BS to students (see attached)

3. trying to be in two places at once

4. extra demands on persons-of-color -- committees, students, etc.

I agree with you Prof. Parisa that contextually, academic stress may differ from one country/institution to the other. That is why i wanted colleagues to share their local contextual experience.

That notwithstanding, there are many similar parallels in academic stress among faculty staff globally such as the publish or perish ditch (cited earlier by Prof. Halford) and others. What do you think?

The need to publish is great as also the need to become tenured. Additionally in the universities in the USA a professor is often judged by how much money they can bring in via grants from various organizations. Thus the professor has to multi-task - teaching, research, grant writing, paper writing, guiding graduate students in research, etc.

Academic stress is on one side.. But managing that is also a big pressure in todays's scenario.

Managing educational, research, and administrative duties could be challenging and overwhelming sometimes. Having good time-management and self-management skills helps you have good balance, achieve your golas, and perform different roles effectively.

For me the problems of administrative work and endless statistics are the worst in my work as a university teaching and researcher specializing in biochemistry.

Bias in seniority is a very common stressor in our field

and I managed it by patience and insistence on doing the right as much as I can

Dealing related to relationships and not scientific qualifications and discrimination between professors as well as immediate and unstudied decisions and instructions that are imposed on teachers

Many pressures such as incompatibility with colleagues and great effort to learn the lessons to students and the absence of some materials necessary for laboratories in some cases and .......the solutions lie patiently only.

Too much teaching hours

The main stressors:

- How to quickly evaluate all changes in the subject area between courses? there's a lot of material, and there's very little time... RG helps with this

- How can I describe the lecture or course material in such a way that students learn as much as possible? First, the key messages of the course should be communicated, then gradually detailed... It requires the skills of ultimate compression of the material (It's a stressor.)... The paradigm of limit generalizations helps me in this...

- How to present the formal material of the lecture so that it is interesting for students? ... these are strong emotions ... It's a stressor

- How to interest students in scientific work? How to teach them to think critically and creatively? ... It's always a worry... It's a stressor

- How to find time for your scientific work?... How to find the right balance?... Time is sorely lacking... It's a stressor

- The family complains that you don't give them much time (due to work)... It's a stressor

As the experience grows and the children grow older, the stressors decrease...

Academic stressors are very common. As long as you are sincere, hardworking and noninterfering, these stresses can be minimised.

It certainly is a stressfull work. And an important issue.

The most important pressures are tired administrative work that keeps us as researchers looking to complete our research projects

When the question of stress in my mind, I wish to just recall my views expressed in similar line which I submit herewith for my perusal.

In the present day environment & the multiplicity of our action to run over to achieve more in life, stress has become the problem of the present day. Our mind ,brain , with the inner urge & divinity with faith & will power have offer us controlling effect on the negative reaction of our performance & stress should not become hamper in any part of our action as to control stress is certainly within the hands of every human beings who are to carry out the performance under clean introspection , stress may not become a negative line of our action .

University academic staff is a symbolic line of intelligence, covering intellectual, power of intelligence which they are working on their performance. It is obvious that in such cases stress may become part of their performing action.

Stress is an individual line of thinking passage & it is up to the individual to control the action of stress which is certainly in their hand. If necessary to psychological playmate under a silence picture of the mind with the breathing formation for certain few minutes every day may help to get rid of stress in the performance of their action.
