I am a researcher at UTP Malaysia. I wanted to know the present challenges that the industry is facing for oil and gas wells during drilling that can be addressed by research.
Drilling fluid rheological properties, cutting transportation, cooling a bit, formation of mud cake, hydrate formation,...........there are a lot of problems.
The most prevalent problem affecting the drilling fluids in HPHT conditions is mud's rheology. Rheology of the fluid changes with changing in temperature, and pressure.
Wear and tear on the equipment due to the environment and associated usage. One area of research is looking for better or more cost effective abrasion resistant materials reducing the number of trips in and out of the hole. That is especially relevant to drill bits and the rock cutting elements.
