There are no specific PRO for taping but joint specific scores can be used. For further assessment before and after the treatment VAS , neuromuscular control , active and passive muscle strength, electromyographic (EMG) activity and proprioception should be assessed. However there are no evidence about the effect of therapeutic taping and hence its better to use it as adjunct and not just rely on as a major line of treatment.
Hi. Perhaps those with the best psychometric and clinimetric properties focusing "functionality/disability", which is often the overall desired effect of interventions in rehabilitation/physiotherapy. For knee problems someone has already done that review (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/49843689_Patient-reported_outcome_measures_for_the_knee); or shoulder problems (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1058274613005132# or http://www.jospt.org/doi/pdf/10.2519/jospt.2014.4893).
Article Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for the Knee
I have to contradict you here Zwati, sorry. There is at least one.
I did make one PRO solely for the purpose of seeing what effect the s-tape could have. It is called the QETED Questionnaire Elastic Taping Excessive Drooling. I was a mix of two existing drooling reports which was a bad mistake... I cannot stand in for its 'statistical thingies'. But it did the job and has been giving me feefback on the effects of one specific tape application. Interestingly enough this tape is used on its own and does not need to be an adjust... :)
I am using the data to back up the tape (written about it in my book), did the posters and presentation and (together with a colleague) am currently preparing a paper on one of the related outcomes. You will find more on the s-tape here under my name.
Thanking you all for all the articles and links on outcome measures.
Thanks for the information Esther, I had never come across this score before as we usually dont use this in our hospital and also because it is not available in any major journal search engines. But its always good to know the other side of the picture as we strongly agree to not rely on taping as a main line of treatment.
This is because so far I have only made it public to people that know how to apply the s-tape. It is still linked to an electronic database of mine. Do you think it is worth the while to 'make a normal copy' for others to use? I do have it in a few languages :)
Oh yes! I am sure people are really interested to test themselves the outcome of the taping. If it is available in french I will surely like to share it with my physio colleagues. I will download it from your profile :)
This will give me something to do as i will have to make the documents first. But it is an idea to put it under my profile... sorry I do not have one in French. Maybe you could help? I have already put the s-tape protocols online, I will try to link them...
I'd suggest the Patient-Specific Functional Scale (PMID: 24556219) and/or the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (PMID: 24828475) as being quick, low-burden, versatile and with excellent responsiveness to change. You can find these refs on my RG page.
dear Swati, As promised the PDF document of the QETED A with the questions that I normally 'ask' electronically. If you would be so kind as to translate into French I would appreciate this very much.
I could then add it to 'the collection' and start using this.
The idea has been that everyone that knows how to apply this tape, (patient or therapist) then sends me an email and starts fills the forms in for me. I have been trying to collect data in this fashion since 2010.
