There is a lot of waste generated during and after the construction, renovation and demolition. What are some of the best methods to manage construction and demolition waste?
It depends on many factors, mainly what materials are used and what recycling options are located at a reasonable distance. Generally, the "Waste Hierarchy" applies, it is an established term so look into that.
But to make this possible, you need to already in the contracting phase set demands and follow up, and see to that all sub-contractors follow the procedures that are set up, both in construction and demolition. When different companies are involved, it is difficult to get everyone to comply.
I can recommend Landcom's [NSW , Australia] effort of reuse of construction waste and civil waste recycling in their Victoria park Project. You may have a look at the link
Gyanendra Kumar Attri : I agree with some answers above. But I believe that we must identify which construction and demolition waste are we talking about. For example crushing and reuse as recommended by Mohsen Sadani can be applied to bricks and concrete wastes but it is hardly applicable to waste glass, waste wood or waste plastics. Best management method must be selected accordinmg to waste m,aterial treated.
Everybody who has contributed is right. However, the type of construction waste materials in question matters. Concrete and demolition can be recycled and reused as aggregates in percentage replacement of the normal coarse aggregate while glass waste could be to replace fine aggregates, though this depends on the type and degree of fragmentation. Both of them could be used for both load bearing and non load bearing structural elements. Meanwhile aggregate crushing value and impact value should be assessed before embarking on its use as aggregate. They can also find their use in the construction of biofilter and toe filter in dam.
This question can only be answered when characterization studies are put up. Construction and demolition waste show a great variety and larger variance in quality and quantity.
The treatment purely depends upon the ingredients its quantity quality and whether 5R techniques is feasible or not.
