Dear Lesia, for me in Library Information Science an important research area is efficient methods for text and images recognition from paper-docs-books to digitalized-docs-books, useful for fast and effective textual and images searching. Gianluca
IoT in Library and Information Science is the emerging topic for Research
Hi,
It seems that bibliometrics has entered the library scene in recent years, mainly in academic libraries. There are libraries that hold a special position for a person who is searching publications and citations of faculties and researchers to evaluate their scientific achievements.
I would argue that there is much to be done regarding the changing face of reference and user service, especially as libraries struggle to justify themselves in the age of Google. There are many who believe libraries are no longer necessary, so new ways are being suggested and developed to promote libraries.

Information literacy and reference service are two key fields for libraries and users in a more and more changing technological environment.
I would rather suggest to go with your research interest area and excel.
I agree with Somipam. There is no "best" area. If you want to do researech in this field, you should make your own mind up on what interests you the most.
competency mapping of LIS professional:technological paradigm shift from catalog to cloud
For me the answer is what we can do/improve any area of Library Information Science ... e-research and metrics to find other ways to users requirements
I'm of the view that research should be motivated by gaps in knowledge and practice. So I suggest you look around your environment and identify researchable problems.
For me there is no "best" area in a discipline, but there are always some hot topics or trends during a definite period. For example, research data management, scholarly communication, digital scholarship, library space renovation, data literacy or even statistic literacy are hot and important recently.
I tend to agree with Yuan Xia, ""no best area in a discipline. But i can advise you go for topics in librarianship that are ICT or e-resources/online resources oriented. Thats the trend!
Impact assesment of library services on higher education and researesearch
Hi Lesia
In my opinion there are several „hot topics“ in Library and Information Science at the moment, to mention only a few: Open Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence in the library environment, Blockchain and scholarly publishing.

Research Data Management, Altmetrics, Metric Studies, Scientometrics, Bigdata.. these are recent research areas to my suggestion...
I tend to agree with Anne .. there are several "hot topics“ in Library and Information Science ...
Bibliometrics and Scientometric are areas people are researching into when it comes to information science.
Information and knowledge management in the augmented reality environment.
Ethics and ethical tensions is the popular answer interesting area of research
The best topic is that You want to research with your interest....
however, in my view, some prominent subject areas according to modern needs and trends regarding LIS research are:
New shapes and forms of information and knowledge in Libraries,
Knowledge management,
Bigdata,
Ethical considerations in new LIS trends,
Sustainable development of libraries,
Multidisciplinary approaches of LIS (e.g. LIS considerations and blend with environmental science, geographical information science, urban development and smart cities and ICT areas....)
I agree with Shahar Faizi that the best topic is the one you yourself find interesting. If you do a good job at researching it and discovering its interest potential--for you and for others--it will make a mark.

The impact and sustainability of library publishing and open scholarship
Hi,
It seems that information literacy and information retrieval are in the first place of subjects researched in LIS. The research method most popular in this area is the survey.
It depends on individual sense of judgement and area of interes. Library and Information Science, librarymanagementand open access publishing
New ways are being suggested and developed to promote libraries.
The key library role is to satisfy information needs and expectations. The best research areas include user studies, information literacy, information management, innovations in information packaging and dissemination, and other related areas.
Librametry, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, Informetrics and Webometrics
It is depend upon the researcher interest and attitude. However, Artificial Intelligence with connection of IR or IoT is a new area.
Bibliometric and Information literacy. The most attractive one is Emerging technologies in Library science and library affairs

information seeking behaviour
quality control in libraries
psychological capital of librarians
bibliotherapy
Digital libray evaluation
user authentication and IP control
Librometrics, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, Webometrics, Altmetrics Studies is best areas for research.
I feel, you should not go with the best areas of research, I would rather suggest you to go with your interest and excel your expertise in it.
Information seeking behaviour

information marketing
information retrieval skills
information ethics
information preservation
digital literacy skills
digital libraries
digital preservation

If research is intended to solve a problem/fill a gap. Then identify a problem to be solved and or a gap to be filled and work on them. You can even draw people's attention to the area.

@Manspreet, Do you mean Digital Information Research?
Because, I am not familiar with the term/concept in librarianship profession.
use of Artificial Intelligence in Information Retrieval and Digital Libraries.
Hi,
My choice of best area of research is bibliometrics .This research area is an eye opener.
Library Automation and Digitalization, Metric Studies, Information Seeking Behavior, Social Media in libraries Lesia Baiko
Hi,
The best choice for information and library research, in my opinion, is bibliometrics and metric studies . The most used research method in this area is a survey, usually a survey of satisfaction of library collections and services.
