(1) Flower, fruit, inflorescence and leaves are some of the important parts for identification of plant species.

(2) Plant taxonomist should be told that from where the plant has been collected. in which conditions plant is growing. What was the original features of the plant at the time of collection. How long the plant specimen has been collected.

(3) To prepare herbarium sheet, first clean the specimen, then dry it and press the specimen in folds of papers at room temperature. When dried, fix the specimen on the sheet meant for this purpose. Write the detailed information about the genus, species, family, date of collection, name of the collector, name of the person who identified it, place of collection, and some important features on sheet.

(4) Not all the times,,,,because some common plant species can easily be identified from pics. All the species cannot be identified from pics. Further it depends on the quality of pic,,,if the pic shows fruit, flower, inflorescence and some other characters. then it can be identified.

Maintain a field book and Note whether it is a tree, herb, shrub, climber etc. Morphology, and prominent phenotypic character of leaf, flower stem, branching pattern, venation, fruit type, flowering pattern, colour etc. This field notes should also contain the place pf collection, type of forest, altitude, distribution pattern of plant in the forest (i.e, commonly found or rare, distributed in groups) etc. Collect a twig with leaves and flowers and preserve it without altering its arrangement. Press it in between paper and preserve till identification. In addition photograph can be helpful.

Taking into account the previous advice, keep your plant materials, leave for instance in herbarium sheet. Avoid to put it in the sun.

However, during your field work, you could keep it in the shade in order to remove water slowly from the wet plant material and keep it longer

the specialization in taxonomy is the key of success, it is too difficult to identify foreign plants, in other words, you have to focus the attention of the flora of certain region or certain country. each expert prefer certain family, if you focus you attention on Lamiaceae or Asteraceae family you will be expert in that family. the specialization will lead to discover minimal differences between the species with the possibility to discover new specie or subspecies. books of local flora are essential to perform this work.

1) I do not want to repeat all details of the previous answers. All plant parts are important. Additionally I want to stress that in non-woody plants also the underground parts may contribute important characters, e.g. the shape of bulbs or tubers.

2-3) Note down every information that is lost, when the plant is dried, e.g. color of flowers or size of shrinking parts. This information has to be added to the herbarium label. Photos may help for documentation, how the plant looked like in the fresh state.

4) When you know very well the flora of a certain region, you will be able to identify most plants also from photos. However, if a photographer does not know the plant beforehand, he never can be sure, if he missed to photograph some important parts. Anyway, sometimes it is necessary to know the size of a certain plant part. And in photos usually scales are missing and so information on size is lost. Of course, in many cases preparation of some hidden plant parts would be necessary for identification, e.g. the interior of fruits or the gynoeceum. Also characters of indument (types of hairs) usually cannot be assessed adequately from photos.

4a) Most regions of the world are undercollected. So, collecting of herbarium specimens should have priority, even when it seems it should be an "easy" plant. Often such plants thought to be common and easy to identify later are divided into several species, based on herbarium studies. Also DNA samples can be taken from herbarium specimens, when they are well preserved. For this reason, it is important that the specimen has been dried quickly.
