It has always been a problem for non-native English speakers to write fluently and error-free research papers/technical reports. One solution is asking native English experts for help, another is using online and paid editing services, both of these are most often not affordable. Another desktop-based solution can be using MS Word for grammar and spell checking.

Have you ever experienced any other standalone and desktop-based solution for language and grammar checking, that is free and works best?
