As all you guys know that the circular polarization exists at certain direction. However, some well known researchers have designed a monopole antenna with omnidirectional radiation pattern with broadside and wide band CP ??!!
Please tell me the necessity of that.
I'd say it all depends on your application. CP antennas are commonly used for satellite communication and point-to-point communication where things like ground bounce can be easily rejected due to the inherent orthogonal polarization produced upon reflection.
Mixing a CP antenna with a linear antenna has the benefit of allowing reception regardless of the linear polarized orientation. CP using both RHCP/LHCP provides polarization diversity that again may be more robust that V/H or diagonal linear scenarios, making them ideal for MIMO applications, again in point-to-point links. These are of course directional scenarios.
Now, creating an omnidirectional CP antenna (typically a nested loop and dipole arrangement although some interesting twisted bowtie arrangements are sold for drone applications) provides point-to-multi-point links as well as omnidirectional coverage at both ends (again good for things like drones) so that CP can be used in applications where tuning both antennas to point at each other isn't practical.
guided military projectiles. or portable control over drones. You need immunity to rotation there, and when pointed aft, the narrow radiation pattern is just that what you need for retreating object/projectile.
For drones, you'll still need a switchable left-right polarization at stationary control side, or dual channel with 2 antennas, like mimo wifi in airplane modelling. For projectile, you know polarization a priori.
It can be used for different applications such as weather radar systems, lower frequency bands CP type applications, cordless telephones, satellite communications etc.
