Generally, we tend to get the phenotypic resistance to colistin in a large percentage. However, when screening for the mcr-1 gene, the percentage recovered, is very less.
At times even the initial phenotypic resistance to colistin is also missed.
Provide me proper suggestions, on how to prevent missing these resistant strains.

Curing is a possible scenario. if you don't culture the strain in the medium with appropriate amount of colistin. Eventually, by third or fourth subculture the strain will lose its resistance. The gene will be removed from the bacteria. Just make sure you add the antibiotic in the exact amount in order to avoid the curing.
