The best software is the one you know how to use well and fits in your budget. ABAQUS licensing has changed to extended tolkens which is way cheaper than ANSYS. Also, ANSYS relies on the partnership with DYNA for explicit analysis whereas ABAQUS has it all integrated. You can switch from explicit/implicit between analysis steps. ANSYS WB is easier for the beginners, however difficult to get a really good meshes. In any case you'd have to use a more professional mesher (as Hypermesh or ANSA). In terms of industries, ABAQUS has greater penetration in the Automotive while ANSYS is preferred in the Energy Industry. ANSYS APDL interface is outdated by 20 years (ABAQUS CAE is way better and more intuitive). The ANSYS Parametric Design Language is still useful though, but you can get the same results using Python with ABAQUS. ANSYS doesn't offer an API to interface with the RST. So you if you're developing an application that depends on reading ANSYS results (file.rst) that could be a pain. ABAQUS offers a very good API, so you don't need to worry about the details on how the database is structured. People prefer to develop UMATs in ABAQUS rather than ANSYS as far as I am aware. My hint for a good choice: Have a look at the whole family. What else is there to support you along the product development? Will you need optmization, fatigue, multi-body, CFD, explicit, acoustics, electromagnetics, etc.? ANSYS comes with CFX, FLUENT, etc. But you have to pay for all of them separately of course. ABAQUS comes with TOSCA, fe-safe, Simpack, xFlow, xFEM and you don't need to pay for all of them. You buy tolkens. Depending on how many tolkens you bought you may be able to use few of them simultaneously. It is worth mentioning that in aerospace NASTRAN is still the reference. And in Academia COMSOL is getting increasing acceptance.

I'm ANSYS user and have a lot of appreciation for it. However the only thing that I can mention here about ABAQUS advantages is that modelling fatigue problems specially XFEM is definitely something that needs to be considered.

With my experience of 10 years in ANSYS, it looks to be ANSYS out performs in all the analysis except Non Linear Contact analysis. Here, contact generation and behavior during and after deformation data can be extracted more realistically and near to exact solution with ABAQUS than ANSYS.

In other sense, When ANSYS came out with version 12.0 they released workbench with more sophistication. In industry, For pre-processors they were in need of solver where as workbench won't allow any pre-processor tool. This created a market for ABAQUS. As many industries moved from ANSYS APDL to WORKBENCH.

Hi Hesam Keshavarz, I am not saying like ANSYS Can't perform Non linear analysis but it does have limitations and results are not that accurate in comparison to ABAQUS. In industry ABAQUS is preferred over ANSYS in case of contact non linearity, geometry and material non linearity cases.

I have been using APDL for years to predict the crack path and fracture behavior.

In fracture analysis of engineering problems using discrete FE methods such as X-FEM, an explicit solver is more appropriate.

Although LS-DYNA is combined for supporting the explicit solver, but there are several constraints on the elements.

Both softwares have pros and cons. As per my experience, ABAQUS is wastly used by the researchers in structural problems.

Both is good software but ANSYS is good in explicit dynamics and cfd related problem. Abaques structural analysis some what good. If you are working with structural than go for Abaques, else subject like cfd, explicit dynamics go for ANSYS. About interface i preferred ANSYS because it is very user friendly.

The two programs are very powerful. I think it's very complex to say which one is better. To select one or the other, you must know the possibilities each one offers. Many times the best is the one you know best. For example, ABAQUS is very good for modelling material and structural problems. It has many constitutive models to analyze the non-linear behavior of steel, concrete, soil, etc. From my point of view, I would not dare to say which is better.

I use ABAQUS, but I recognize that ANSYS is a very good program.

A fact that may be important: I have noticed that scientific publications related to the modelling of the behavior of structures, in recent years, predominates a little more the use of ABAQUS.

Yes, the two programs are very powerful, but for me I prefer ANSYS compare to ABAQUS.

I will recommend ANSYS for fluids while ABAQUS for structural analysis. Altough both the programs are very powerful.

Note that Abaqus does not include templates such as Ansys, you can install the system completely and assign the variables you want. Abaqus is more professional, accuracy is greater than Ansys.

Post the analytical results of the same problem you had solved using both FEA tools. Compare both analytical results with the experiments/theoretical calculation. Then it is easy to offer a technical opinion based on the comparison. "Do not praise based on its price".
