In herbal formulation, Can we have to mentions herbs biological class or their active extracted ingredients? Is it compulsory to mention quantity of all herbal sources?
I do not really know what standards are required for herbal products but what I know is that they must have stark requirements with regard to medicinal and aromatic products
A very interesting question. This calls for quality control. Until such labelings are done, the reliance of such by an enlightened community will remain a mirage. I hope an author handling this aspect in our ongoing project will address it. Thanks.
If we dealing with the herbal drug product means, we have to standardize that i.e., raw materials as well as finished products with the help of WHO - Quality control methods for herbal materials guidelines which is freely available in online and other guideline also available for the above.
For more detailed information regarding Herbal products and its formulation, please see Label of any marketed formulations of Brand company like Himalaya, Hamdard, Dabur etc.

Though the language varies with the countries or areas, the following contents are expected to be labeled on the product:
· name of product;
· name and quantity (in dry weight when relevant) of active ingredient(s): including scientific names;
· dosage form;
· directions for use including indications, dosage, mode of administration, duration of use, age group limitations, and use during pregnancy and lactation;
· warning statements and relevant contraindications, adverse effects, if any, and overdose information when relevant;
· batch number;
· expiry date;
· storage conditions;
· name and address of manufacturers and/or importers; and
· registration or notification (listing) number.
It is also important to know that the materials used for labeling should also be environmentally feiendly to have wider acceptance.
