As we know, there are several energy sources available now for AF ablation. RF is potent enough not to fail to make a lesion set to treat AF successfully, when comparing with other energy sources. However, esophageal injury is harmful, so we must be careful when we use RF.
We are doing work in this area and have found that radio frequency ablation (RFA) provides more consistent lesions and resulting electrical isolation. There is, however, significant user variability. Other techniques (e.g., cryoablation, lasers) show potential promise but the implementation of the technology is limited to date.
