There are some general recommendations for "Quarantine";
1. The quarantine facility should be located within a single operational entity, if possible. It should be structurally physically separated from all other operations and is dedicated solely to the holding of the shipment.
2. It should not share a building having areas that are used for different purposes and should not be used to access other buildings or activities.
3. The quarantine facility should not be used for any other purpose than as a place for the performance of quarantine.
4. The quarantine facility should be weatherproof and maintained in a state of good repair.
5. The quarantine facility should be a secure, lockable building that is surrounded by a lockable person-proof security fence.
6. The holding capacity of the quarantine facility should be commensurate with the proposed quantities of the species of aquatic animal for which a permit is granted.
7. Provision must be made for the growth and maturation of the original parent stock and the holding of all F1 and subsequent generations, as required.
8. The quarantine facility should be equipped for the sterilization of all equipment that comes in contact with aquatic animals or tank water during the quarantine period.
9. The quarantine facility should be equipped with back-up systems for essential components (e.g. electricity, water circulation, aeration, temperature control, filtration) to maintain bio-security and the health of stocks in the case of electrical or mechanical failure.
This is very valuable question, In BFT there are agreegation of bacteria, fungii, plytoplankton and zooplankton. We can not add the antibiotics. But if you manage biofloc volume and sludges, the diseases could not occured or minimize, system will be control. You also should maintain pH, low pH having posibility to damage of system, in perticularly culture animal mortality will be occured. Biofloc come to improve culture environments which minimize diseases. In aquaculture sector, most of the diseases having relation to culture evvironment degradation. If diseases come in BFT system, its not true BFT at all. Thank you so much
Prepare a baby pond. This will help you in 2 ways, one you can do initial quarantine for fish seeds and second you can treat the infected fishes separately. Apart from that regarding the medicines there are many medicines available in the market with different brand names. I suggest to have a look at the medicines available in your place.
In theory, it is very rare for diseases to appear in a system with BFT, if they do appear it is due to improper management of the system in terms of water quality and a high density that is not supported to eliminate toxic substances in the pond.
One of the documented advantages of the application of the BFT is biosecurity, therefore, the appearance of diseases can also be due to external factors:
1.- Organisms already sick previously.
2.-Inadequate health in the aquaculture farm.
In fish as in shrimp it has been shown that the immune system is activated by what makes it more resistant to diseases.
The treatment is already independent for each species and the disease presented, and this no longer depends on the cultivation system.
