I am currently investigating the integration of VR and AR in the process of language learning. I am mainly focusing on the technological possibilities that the use of e.g. VR glasses offers compared to other learning media. I have already analysed a few advantages. I would like to know which arguments have not been appreciated enough so far. Overall, one often hears the same arguments.

Andreas K. Increases learners' ability to learn. Increase interest in mundane disciplines such as science. Students' comprehension should be improved. Improve instructors' teaching skills by offering a deep level of knowledge using VR.

One advantage of AR/VR/Mixed Reality (aside from arguably numerous downsides) is to accomplish exactly that what its name implies: mix realities. This may allow one to for example contextualize (otherwise) abstract learning material by superimposing/blending it with the actual world, context and surroundings.
In our research we have found that designing the type and 'level' of blending has an impactful effect on the overall experience when dealing with mixed reality. Though our studies were not related to the educational domain in particular.
Also, I feel that many nuances/flavours of mixed reality are often overlooked in the design process (there's more out there than 'just' VR/AR). Experimenting with Pine & Korn's 3 dimensions (space, time, matter) and 8 subsets of reality from the multiverse framework might help break open this design space. For generative design sessions, I created a simple to use physical model to play around with (see Method The Mixed Realities Octahedron and Cube
).
Andreas K., one essential argument for language learning in AR/VR is experiencing and practicing in authentic contexts e.g. through role-plays and realistic tasks in simulated environments that can blend multiple modalities as Jasper Jeurens illustrated. In some of our recent publications, we have highlighted inspring applications and formulated relevant methods and models regarding AR, VR and Metaverse in education [0-3]. For a more comprehensive view, I suggest collecting data from reviews e.g. [4-6].

I feel that rather than glasses; NLP or cognitive service used for language training would matter more than whether it is AR glass or VR Glass; can you share more insight about service used for language training?
