Digital maps are basic elements of a geographic information
system (GIS). In dialog mode, the map’s function is to provide
access to an accumulated non-cartographic database reference
that connects descriptive and static information associated with
objects on the map. Non-cartographic data are visualized as
tables, graphs and images (including satellite digital images).
Digital maps are created in the instrumental GIS environment.
