Could you please provide me with a reliable source on Heavy Metal Maximum Permissible limits ,which you have actually used? More specifically, I need to assess the degree of contamination near the mining sites. Also wonder what forms of metals ( like hydroxides, oxides) are implied in these values.

The maximum permissible levels are set by various bodies, typically for a country of group of countries. The limits are often arbitrary because the relation with those in products is typically poor. The real importance is in products for consumption and these limits affect trade
