Area expansion in Indian agriculture stopped long ago. With declining yields in major crops like rice and wheat, could cultivable waste lands be absorbed in it? If so, could it be reproduced for better yields?
I guess the landholdings size in india has become so small in various states like Bihan, UP, Jharkhand, etc that agriculture is not feasible for these farmers and they turn into labourers. If agriculture cooperatives are created and agriculture industry is developed with large holdings, significant improvement both in agriculture coverage and yield is possible.
