For burn probability modelling purposes, I have to use vegetation variables. The problem is that actual vegetation/fuel data present a bias due to past fires and the time since them. For example, an area with a low canopy closure due to a past stand-replacement fire will be highly correlated with burn probability, but in the reality that shouldn't be the case as the actual post-fire vegetation may not spread the same type of fire in the same proportions, depending on time since fire.
Basically, I'm looking for a way to create some sort of "Potential" vegetation data. I thought about fire-succession softwares such as Landis, but you may have other ideas.
I have to precise that it is not possible to consider remote-sensing, since I'm working on thousands of fires and it is not possible for the moment to check each pre-fire conditions...
