It consists of an air-filled cavity called the tympanic cavity and includes the three ossicles and their attaching ligaments; the auditory tube; and the round and oval windows. The ossicles are three small bones that function together to receive, amplify, and transmit the sound from the eardrum to the inner ear.(Wikipedia)

Interesting discussion. I realized, listening sense has more involved, dutiful, engaged in among all sensing activities. For normal human, Ear do work more than any sensing organ eyes, toung, hands, nose, even, while sleep ears found more sensitive than any other sensing organ. Listening is the first sense develop in the womb, human learned better/more by listening, than writing or speaking.
The human ear, aside from the part that is external to the head (auricle), is completely housed in the thick bones of the sides and base of the skull called the temporal bones. The thick back part of the bone called the mastoid may be felt directly behind the earlobe.
The ear consists of three parts: the outer, middle and inner ear. Each plays a role in hearing and one a role in maintaining balance. For the most part, they are inaccessible to direct inspection, with the exception of the ear canal and ear drum (tympanic membrane).
