Bradford's law of scattering tell us that, it we rank journals according to the number of articles in a specific field, the top 1/3 can be considered "core journals".
This only describes core journals based on the amount of publications. What are other characteristics?

Bradford's Rule also has showed for Citations. another existing method is Q1 presented by SCIMago. That is first 25 present journals based on SJR.

I understand that it is rather arguable the way how we define core journals, but I guess different approaches may render some similarities. What have core journals in common? For instance, Abdalsamad pointed they share citation characteristics (Q1):
-are they high impact journals?
- are they specialized journals, publishing only in a specific subject?
- do they present trends in research before other journals?
- do they go deeper in discussions?
If all that core journals need is size, then Plos One (>40 thousand articles a year) would be a core journal in all fields. Does it make sense?
If all that core journals need is citation, then Nature and Science would be core journals in all fields. Does not make sense?
I could not find papers discussing about this, perhaps because I am beginner in the field.
OK. First it should be noted that my imagination of core is in a specific field not in all. Based on Q1 of Scimago they have many citations from very cited journals so based on literature it can be noted they have high impact.
