The 2014 ACA Code of Ethics states that it is unethical and discriminatory for a professional to refer a client because the professional disagrees with the client's values.

A legitimate and important question in some areas of our academic careers. Such conflicts are nothing out of the ordinary in a liberal society where competition is the basis of the free market. Therefore, one must learn to tolerate and endure such conflicts to a certain degree. Of course, there are conflicts that weigh heavily on one's conscience. Here I can only answer (but perhaps there are better answers from professional conflict consultants): A strict self-examination and objective analysis of the conflict is important. After three sides: the motives, the consequences, which result from the actions, are important to consider. And last but not least, thirdly, what one can and cannot expect of oneself. Ultimately, I would always try to discuss the conflict with a professional conflict advisor or at least with a knowledgeable third person.
