Renoir, I cannot answer your question, I'm afraid, but would be grateful if you can tell me, eventually, if you conclude that Hannah's advice was good.
If either of you has advice on wetland expansion, specifically in Costa Rica, this will be much appreciated. Thank you.
AudioMoths - https://www.openacousticdevices.info/audiomoth - great sound quality, relatively inexpensive. Depending on the recording duty schedule and the size of the memory card, they can be left out for a few weeks. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to find right now because of chip shortages.
We currently are using #audiomoths in Amazonia of Ecuador. We just deploy them one week before, so I could share our experience in a couple of weeks. They are small, relatively cheap and recording in a wide range of frecuency.
Despite the price convenience of Audiomoths, if these automated recording units will be deployed in harsh environmental conditions for long-term recording schedules, definitively SM4 of Wildlife Acoustics are the best option. We operated this equipment in Yungas Andean Forests of NW Argentina since 2017 with a high reliability (just take care of ants and defective 2D batteries)
Little to add to the previous comments, but if you can afford them the Wildlife Acoustics recorders (SM4 or SM Mini) would be the best option. The Cornell of Lab recorders could be also an excellent option. AudioMoth are the cheapest ones but they have less functionalities and likely perform worst at long term than the SM recorders. We used SM2 for monitoring a couple of tropical frogs, in some cases over a whole year.

you can ask to Mike Ryan lab staff for advice, they work a lot with tropical amphibians in Panama recording chorus for behavioral studies https://sites.cns.utexas.edu/ryan-lab
