Weak signal and a lot of background in immunostaining experiment. I am using CY3 antimouse secondary antibody. Can anybody help?

I am getting a weak signal and lot of background in my immunostaining experiment. I am using CY3 antimouse secondary antibody. We routinely use vectashield as mounting media. Can anybody help me in solving this problem?
