the more I realized the strange nature of D/1993 F2 (Shoemaker–Levy).
Anyone has a definite and sound answer with respect to the real nature of that object ?

Object D/1993 F2 was realy comet. In the any case, cometary nature of the object was confirmed by observations and modelling.
We should not forget that short-period comets (apparently SL9 spent quite some time as one, before being captured into an unstable Jupiter orbit) in particular will lose much of their volatile material over time. Some may even become "extinct comets" that appear very similar to asteroids. Thus there is no clear distinction between the various types of small Solar System bodies. Rather, there are transitional stages.
