Most of the advances in electronics were heavily stimulated by the cold war. Transistors were attractive because they’d mean lower weight and power for military equipment, especially rockets. Computers were first developed for military purposes. And the Internet we are communicating on was a cold war project.

I don’t think man would have landed on the moon if there was no Cold War. Both the USA and USSR benefited from the scientists they captured from Nazi Germany which produced missile and rocket technology.

Some of the great progress in science, engineering and technology occurred during the cold war days. Some of these were done in secret and kept as a secret. It does not necessarily imply that technological progress was low. True, the Internet was not there for wide dissemination of information.
