it's been a while since I have been looking for an answer for VC v.s PC in ventilating asthmatic patients. Some preferred VC, some PC and some claimed that there is no superiority of one over the other. I'm so interested in reading your replies about it.
The application of PC in asthmatic patients result in rapid improvement in arterial blood gas analyses while maintaining a low peak inspiratory pressure. PC can reduce pulmonary barotrauma risk, making it a safer protective ventilation mode than synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation – volume control.

PC ventilation is preferable in asthmatic patients in general, and pediatric asthmatic patient in particular because of the less chance of barotrauma. In PC mode pressure is the primary control and volume is the secondary control, so the delivery of inspiratory volume may vary from breath to breath depending on the airway resistance and may cause variable Oxygen delivery, but barotrauma is more dangerous.
pressure control is preferable since it prevent atelectrauma and it splints the air way ope and causes the flow.
