I am using the following method for GC-MS analysis of biodiesel prepared from cotton seed oil, using Shimazdu GC 7890A having column HP5MS. Please verify if this method needs any changes as I am not able to get correct results.
Helium flow: 1.5ml/min; Split ratio: 10:1, Sample:1microlt; Injector & detector temperature: 260C; Initial oven at 40C for 2min then at 70C for 5min then ramp of 5C/min upto 300C.
In what way are you results not correct? I would imagine biodiesel is a complex mixture of compounds, so without knowing what the purpose of your analysis is, or how it is not performing, its not possible to troubleshoot.
So resolution is the issue? Also, is the retention time consistent with what you expect? In general, the method parameters you listed are not out of the ordinary, so I'm wondering if it could be a column issue. Have you tried another column?
