I'm trying to simulate the heat flow due to the application of laser on a solid rod rotating at 500 RPM using ANSYS APDL. I'm able to model the moving heat flux on the surface through application of heat flux on nodes and elements though the results are same for initial two load steps there a further increase in the temperature when the heat flux is applied through elements. Please suggest me why is this variation in results even though the mesh, time and the applied heat flux value is same on the method of application is different, one is through nodes while other is through elements. Also give your opinion on which results are more accurate so that I can proceed with my project.

Mapped mesh is used to mesh the model. Do loop is used to select the nodes/elements on the surface and apply the heat flux to read the maximum temperature for each load step.

We know that, Heat flux = heat input per unit area. So, once we apply the heat flux in nodes then the heat input value = heat flux value*area surrounding by the nodes (at which heat flux is applied). And once we apply the heat flux in elements then the heat input value = heat flux value*area surrounding by the element faces (at which heat flux is applied). Now, if the magnitude of heat input is more the the rise of peak temperature will be more. So, I feel in this case your input value becoming more in case of element. Check it thoroughly.
