Is it appropriate to use "Total population sampling" in a quasi-experimental study with maximum 400 individuals (the elderly living in nursing homes in a certain city) as the study population? after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria , the eligible individuals will be even less than 100.
It depends upon the objective(s) of the study undertaken.
Validity , reliability , accuracy etc. of the findings are some of the qualities which are essential and/or desirable. These qualities of the findings depends on the method of sampling applied, on the size of sample taken and on the three basic principles namely randomization , replication & local control of the associated design of experiment.

Heiko Breitsohl All the elderly living in the nursing homes in the study location that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be recruited for the study (randomly divided into the experimental and control groups). There will be no sample size calculation. All the population will be the study samples.
