Your opinion on the use of plastic, especially bisphenol A in materials and articles in contact with food. A lot of study on negative effects has been published, especially on children, and the ban on use in the EU only applies to baby bottles.
Many research has recommended the toxicity of these substances plus it caused cancer diseases, urged the use of glassware and paper bags as an alternative to them.
Plastic should be used wisely. We are very much dependent on plastic. We have to think about its use, re-use and recycling. In hotels and restaurants plastic is used as packing material. As temperature of food is quite high, Therefore, there are possibilities of contamination.
While I am not an environmental specialist, but still interested on your take on plastic bags if you have to make a policy for the complete world? Definitely complete elimination may not be possible or even a good idea.
I agree with you. An additional problem is Bisphenol A.
Bisphenol A used in the production of plastic materials intended for contact with food is a particular problem. Unfortunately, banned only for children but not for adults (including vulnerable population groups).
In recent years, the use of plastic has been more heavily criticised than ever for the many problems it can cause. While today many people are aware that using large amounts of plastic is not only contributing to the depletion of natural resources but also to the pollution of nature, the impacts plastic has on human health are not discussed nearly as often – although they are equally alarming!
Of course, we should be limiting the use of plastic in all areas of our life, but when it comes to food, using plastic to save, store or cook in is a major hazard and can have profound negative effects on our health.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 of 14 January 2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food (Text with EEA relevance)
EFSA's scientific opinion, 2014 (Scientific Opinion on the risks to public health related to the presence of bisphenol A (BPA) in foodstuffs): no health concern for any age group from dietary exposure
EC: decision to ban children (precautionary principle): Decision on the Prohibition of Children (precautionary principle): COMMISSION DIRECTIVE 2011/8/EU of 28 January 2011 amending Directive 2002/72/EC as regards the restriction of use of Bisphenol A in plastic infant feeding bottles
COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2018/213 of 12 February 2018 on the use of bisphenol A in varnishes and coatings intended to come into contact with food and amending Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 as regards the use of that substance in plastic food contact materials
Many scientists consider plastic to be carcinogenic and cause many cancers, especially when mixed with hot or cold foods, especially when heating fat or containing fat in the microwave.
The heating or freezing of the plastic works to break down the chemical bonds of a substance called dioxin. It mixes with food and travels to the body. Therefore, it is best to heat food in the microwave using pyrex or porcelain. For the utensils in the refrigerator and freezer, the best is the glass.
International regulations and ban may not be enough to stop the act, it requires the action of local regulatory bodies in every country to do a major follow up.
I suggest use of carry beggage made from cloth of khadi ( one type of cotton material suggested by Mahatma Gandhi). I also suggest use of clay product for developing environmental friendly approach.
Other Harm: There are some plastic bags that are too thin, making it there is a chance to melt when boiling. When boiling plastic can chemicals found in plastics that move food, where it can be located in the glue bags goes to food. Boil the food in plastic bags can cause the formation of bubbles can explode with high temperatures, which may cause burns on the face or hands
It is better to buy food grade quality plastic container which is BPA free for keeping our food. Anyway, the best option should be maximum avoidance of using plastic container for carrying or keeping our food or water.
Plastic that is used to fill the hot bread and snacks for children in school, and also hot in restaurants diets, so that these bags soften and react low temperature, so the interaction with hot meals poses a risk to human health, which causes him many of the health problems caused substance cancer-causing dioxin
