I am trying to build a cheap chemostat to generate pilot data. I am following this paper: DOI: 10.21769/BioProtoc.3813 (www.bio-protocol.org/e3813).

In the paper, they used an air pump to generate an air-flow in the reaction chamber.

Since I plan to use Escherichia coli and other enteric bacteria, which are either anaerobic or facultative aerobic, should I add the air flow or just pump the medium in the channel?

Thank you
