Structural engineering designers run after the target of spanning longest distance from decades ago.. and that target was the dream of the designer up to day…… For me, I reached 30m span length by prestressed concrete beams on building structure…what about you..?
In my opinion, as long as the deflection and cracking requirements are satisfied, and that the design is done correctly as far as concrete dimensions and reinforcement go, and that there is no violation to aesthetic, service, or architectural requirements, so nothing should stop engineers from reaching new span records.

My answer was based on theory indeed. In practice, other factors will come up. So my answer is applicable as far as design is concerned. I am an academic and did not have the chance to do this in practice.

Theoretical calculations on design and what followed from specifications and recommendations carried out on this subject, really differ from what can achieved in Practical sites ... long span is really a challenge..

One should look at the short term and long term shrinkage strains and thermal strains due to variation in ambient temperatures. If these aspects are addressed, one can design beams with prestressing, for longer spans. RCC may not be economical for long spans.

-Ordinary RC beams: approximately 10-12 times the beam's depth.
-Pre-stressed: 20-30 max depending on the pre-stressing force and the beam's depth.
This is assuming a service load (Live + super-imposed dead load) not exceeding 7 kN/m2 on the floor area; and considering a simply-supported condition.

Are these limitation based on theoretical calculations or applicable constructed projects???..... because I really need the maximum span length based on experience and real constructed projects.. done by expert engineers ... or... projects you may noticed in your life constructed by others...
The real problem is not on the design and how to calculated the span length based on specification and code.. its really on constructed that longest distance and cover big area.. that's need expert supervisors and high qualified teams to do that..
Please be us and share me whats the maximum span length you had seen constructed before.. or might nowadays..

These are based on some experience I had on RC structural design. It's too bold to call them "limitations" though: call them approximate guidance that, of course, would not compromise the need for doing theoretical calculations. You can just use them to assume initial sections to be analyzed during the design stage, or to detect anomalies that need to recheck during the construction stage.
In Bridges I have seen 60 m long prestressed girders, there is longer for sure, but this is what I have seen personally.
