Hi there,

I'm running consecutive cyclic voltammetry measurements on Pt and Au electrodes, starting with a 'fast' scan (1 mV/s), followed by a long conditioning scan (20h), followed by 2nd 'fast' scan, etc. In the picture attached I've overlaid the consecutive 'fast' scans. The conditioning scans are not shown.

The current-voltage curves start out looking as expected, but with each additional long conditioning scan, I observe a reduction peak at around 0 V and an oxidation peak around 100 mV getting stronger. These seem to show up even when the redox species (the ferricyanide couple in this case) is not present (I also ran some scans in just the electrolyte and DI water).

Any thoughts on what is going on and why these unexpected peaks show up after long conditioning even in redox buffer?

Thanks!
