What do you mean by leadership?
What characteristics should a leader possess?
Based on these characteristics, indicate a person that you consider a leader and why describing him / her?
When did you realize this person was a leader for you?
Have you led? How was the experience? What do you think it takes to lead?
If someone from your job invited you today to lead what would be your reaction? Do you consider yourself able to lead? What do you think it would be like to lead people twice your age and other generations?

For me, leadership is about engaging people and about change.
Leaders develop a well informed view of what future is desirable - they build engagement with that future vision and then momentum, by supporting and enabling other people. Leadership involves listening, coaching and delegating.
Leadership is different to management.
Management is about ensuring process and procedure exists, so that efficiency is maximised and risk minimised.
Management involves clear instruction for newcomers and ongoing (expert) advice for team members.
I have met good leaders and good managers.
With experience most people work out that they are better at leading or managing and stick to jobs that play to their strengths. Others are competent and adept at switching between all of the skills I've described and so, they are good leaders and good managers.
A smaller number of people seem to have hard-wired preferences or preconceived ideas about what approach is more important. Consequently, they struggle to adapt and deploy the right approach in different situations. It's worth saying that none of these people go to work intending to mess things up - but they struggle to lead and in some cases struggle to manage as a result.
I am 47 and have worked for 31 years in a variety of organisations - mostly healthcare and education.

Leadership is who leads the group at their own cost. The qualities that any leader should have is guts and faith in them to achieve the goal.
