I am working with some very motivated undergraduates who are interested in learning the craft of research while pursuing their own research interests under guidance of a seasoned graduate student or faculty. I would love to hear your experiences with this as well as suggested venues (especially virtual ones) for presenting undergraduate work.
How wonderful to have such motivated undergraduates and to be at a university where I'm sure you have a plethora of interested graduate students! Is there a way for the undergrads to align themselves with grad students, almost as research assistants, and then they could present alongside them together at targeted conferences? If you are looking for an international dimension, I would be happy to talk about forums to connect our students. Lastly, AERA has some excellent SIGS that are active online, and creating online forums for discussion on Facebook as well as Zoom. Through the help and guidance of peers, it is possible to learn many important knowledge and skills, including research skills, where there is a kind of convergence in features and way of thinking between them
Hi Ross. I have worked with several undergrads as a graduate student and now as faculty. I would say that this is a great experience. A number of them have presented at conferences and coauthored papers. I think that the most difficult part is helping them narrow down the focus to something achievable in the time frame you have. There are undergraduate research conferences at many universities that are a great first place at which to present (usually in the spring if I remember correctly).
