Hi Morgan: These chemicals just only used to break the surface tension of water, and ensure that the spores evenly distributed in the water as suspension . So it has no effect in fungal isolation you can avoid it when you do the isolation.
Thank you Oadi. I will use this as a last resort. Do you think a 0.2% SDS solution works as well?
I have always used Triton X-100 at 0.05% v/v. But in the past when first working in the tropics and not having access to this I have resorted to dish-washing liquid. A simple one that does not have lots of fancy colours and other ingredients would be the best to try. Of course, a lot depends on what you are trying to do.
