First of all, the type of infection should be known for which other class of aminoglycoside drugs (Including, gentamycin, kanamycin, capreomycin, neomycin, streptomycin etc) to be used alternatively with amikacin.
According to the American Lung Association (2019), those people who are diagnosed with Nontuberculous Mycobacterial (NTM) Infection doesn’t get any treatment right away since it is not yet severe. However in cases with more serious NTM infection, standard treatment is given which is a combination of two or more antibiotics. These antibiotics include the Amikacin, Azithromycin, Streptomycin, Rifampicin and etc. as a treatment for this infection (NTM Lung Disease Treatment,2019). So answering this question, yes you can use an alternative for amikacin like streptomycin since it is also an aminoglycoside.
