Considering that the plasma glucose concentration is 5mM, under normal condition SGLT1 transports glucose uphill its concentration. However when luminal glucose concentration is high (above 5mM), why should the transport still be called uphill?
SGLT1 is unequivocally the prime intestinal glucose transporter even at high luminal glucose concentrations. Moreover, SGLT1 mediates glucose-induced incretin secretion. Previous studies do not provide evidence for GLUT2 playing any role in either apical glucose influx or incretin secretion.
