As i've gone through few items that i've selected from several sources for my survey questionnaires, i realise that there are few revisions to be made on the correct use of the language and structures.
I would like to know to what extent do researchers have the right to revise and to change the language forms and structures of items by other scholars as long as we don't change the context of these items.
Please advise.

Well, as per my knowledge, there is no any specific restriction for this purpose. One can modify already published questionnaire as per their research requirements. It is a good approach to get permission from the questionnaire developer for potential use. Moreover, in the write up, you can mention like "major modifications were made in items X, Y, and Z taken from ABC paper and and item number H, I, and J went through minor modifications so that it can be used for present research".
