Modern teaching methods significantly enhance students' critical thinking skills by promoting active learning, problem-solving, and reflective inquiry.
In modern times, many ways exist to cultivate critical thinking in students. The basis for all of them is the cultivation of the skill of formulating open questions and then training in research methods to answer them (experiments in the natural sciences, study and research the historical sources in history, etc.). Of course, your question cannot be answered in just one way. I hope you will find other answers in my articles on my profile.

in the UK - the short answer is 'not much' with its emphasis on constant testing for memory. In Finland there is no such testing in schools and they get better results. The longer answer is that one cannot generalise, its very variable and in my experience depends upon the personal attitude and curiosity of the individual teacher. (some individuals in 'teaching' positions have little curiosity, and instruct by rote) whereas sharing a love of a subject and in its investigation is an experience welcomed by students.
Modern teaching methods have a special impact on the development of skills and critical thinking of students. For example, if teachers use traditional knowledge transfer methods, students will only receive knowledge. However, if teachers use modern teaching skills such as CaseStudy, students will actively learn knowledge related to the assigned CaseStudy and at the same time form the skills to search for and verify information to choose and argue in a reliable and convincing way to the teacher and classmates.
