Stupid, but sadly many researchers are looking at what effects things have on cells in tissue culture and then making a quantum leap to equate tissue culture experiments to whole animals.
A simple cure for cancer will definitely peek peoples interest and generate headlines and lead to articles in the tabloids and late night infomercials.
Stupid, sad and irresponsible because people with cancer that are given months to live will grab at any chance of living longer no matter the price.
I hope there is a special place in hell for those who peddle bogus miraculous cancer cures to these desperate patients just to get their money.
