To publish an article e-journals or open access journals are most useful because our work will publish very fast and most of researchers will read our works. So that I am very happy for joining in ResearchGate. I have downloaded most of papers from ResearchGate.
I agree, e-journals are really fast to publish, but I prefer peer-reviewed journal at all. Usually I select my journal having a look at the impact factor that you can find on scopus website.
Recently the Medicine Nobel price Randy Schekman declared that "prestigious journals as Science, Nature or Cell lead the research main topics into trendy fields instead of doing more important work. " Although his words, in my opinion, are full of truth, it is necessary to remark that Randy is the chief editor of a new journal (eLife).
Its simple, You always want your research paper to be visible to the world, Isn't it so, give focus to those journals which can make your paper reflect in the international platform, Your ideas must be accessible to all so i think E-journals is more effective but nowadays e-journal also have their print form as well. this is the age of computer so better choose those e-journal having best indexing and listing and who can provide best platform to your paper.
My PhD advisor said always something like "Publish much, publish high (quality = high impact factor), publish wide(-ranged), though.".
One aspect of publishing is that you want others to see and recognize you and your work/research. It does not help you if you can publish to some Elsevier journal with high impact factor but no one can read it. Always(!) publishing in the same journal means that you are only seen by a limited audience. And so on...
So, you have to decide from time to time, every time.
Be careful with "impact factors": In a very specialized field a journal with an impact factor of 2-4 could be gold standard. Do not emphasize it too much. In the end a paper is a paper is a paper (Rules of Acquisition, #17 ;) ).
Now, it seems most of the journals are moving online - and it would be only a matter of time that most would move into OPEN ACCESS for the benefit of community, which will add a burden on the academics and the schools... as with OPEN ACCESS you need to pay as an author or your school needs to place the funds for that...
But, I believe the more access your paper has the more citations you will get and the more your records will be improved.
After writing a paper selecting a good journal is becoming main factor for the article being published.
I agree with prof. Agnella Matic, prof. Sven Kochmann and prof. Roberto Nascimbene.
Here I have send you a list of Repudiated Journal in Mathematics (since you belongs to this field). All are peer review journal. All these journal are scopus indexed, (most of them are SCI indexed) with a good Impact Factor (TR).
Hope this list will help you and all researcher in the field of Mathematics.

Dear Jayanti, most answers from our colleagues are right. It is important to choose peer-reviewed journals that are included in prestigious bibliographic services (indexes, directories, repositories). Prestigious researchers also look for journals with high impact factors (or other measures of citations); however, those are more difficult to be accepted because they also have more demand.
Regarding print, e- , or open access journals, I would say that it depends on who you want to read your article rather than the type of publication. Only print journals tend to disappear. You currently find journals that combine print and e- versions. There are very good open access journals that do not charge publication fees to the authors. Others do. It depends on their financial models. Please look at the beginning of my answer on what to look on a journal.
How expedited your publication will be depends on the traffic of the target journal and the number and type of revisions you would have to do.
Be careful of not publishing in the first journal that comes to your hands. There are many predatory publications, several of them coming from Asia and Africa, but they are everywhere.
