What physical properties should have the material in order to replace TiO2 in the DSSC applications?
Well Zoubir, Yes their is materials which can replace the TiO2 from DSSC. However, we have to look first the desired properties. ZnO is very close in all aspect to replace TiO2.
V2O5 is known as a typical low-mobility n-type semiconductor (J. Mater. Chem. , 2004,14, 3411–3415), You need to compare electrical properties with TiO2. IF electrical conductivity is in similar range, You may use this material.
Dear Zoubir, there e are some perovskite that are replacing DSSC. They don't suffer of degradation and can achieve really high efficiency.
Dear Claudio; can you give me some examples for perovskite materials which can replace positively the well known TiO2.

Anatase TiO2 is the way to go, although it must be hybridized at the molecular level w X - substituents (interstitially within the nanocrystal composed of amorphous zero valent metals etc.) and the bandgap is significantly changed it will be actually acknowleged as a new material. (such as proprietaary doping methods currently in the IP landscape). The ratio of dopant must be substantial and stable. At this point with these new materials, a new paradigm shift will be acknowledged and appropriately tested in regards to DSSC technology. Top down dispersion and sintering approaches will never achieve bringing the DSSC technology to market. Dyesol as the leaders is going down the wrong path unfortuneately for them. At the end of the day who is going to pay for this? My question to all is "If you had this powerful proprietary nanocrystal who would you bring it to, that would recognize its power and potential?
