Indeed, momentum conservation is one condition for indirect transitions. The high "Phonon energy" indicates for multi-phonon-transitions. The number of emitted (or absorbed) phonons is described by the so called Huang-Rhys-factor. If the recombination or Absorption bands are very broad, this hints to a multi-Phonon Transition. If the phonon Peak is very sharp and well resolved, than a single phonon Transition is more probable.
