Is there any strain of Thraustochytriidae that contain chlorophyll. We have few isolates that turn to Green when cultured in mixotrophic cultivation mode. However, it remains white/cream color biomass under heterotrophic cultivation mode.
A mixotrophic culture turns green which most probably is due to the presence of chlorophyll(derivates): In the microscope you can see where the green is and from where the fluorescence comes from: cells, particles or the solution. Only traces are needed to reveil low temperature fluorescence spectra of a drop of your suspension on a filter paper by measuring low temperature (77K) emission spectra, which are very typical for chlorophylls and similar molecules.
